a reset page for after my brain has grabbed one scary thought, dressed it in a tiny judge outfit, and allowed it to run the entire courtroom.

spiraling does not mean the fear is true.

it means my system is overloaded and trying to create certainty by chewing on the same thing until it becomes emotional paste.

  • looping the same situation
  • needing reassurance
  • feeling like something is very wrong
  • rereading messages or evidence
  • imagining worst-case outcomes
  • trying to solve everything immediately
  • feeling unable to stop thinking about it
  • treating a possibility like a confirmed fact
  • feeling pressure to explain, fix, apologize, or decide right now

🧩 common spiral triggers

  • unclear tone
  • delayed replies
  • vague feedback
  • conflict or perceived conflict
  • fear of disappointing someone
  • realizing i may have made a mistake
  • too many urgent-feeling things at once
  • physical exhaustion or sleep disruption
  • uncertainty with no immediate answer
  • feeling judged, dismissed, or misunderstood

🛑 first rule

do not obey the spiral immediately.

the spiral wants action because action feels like safety.

but fast action during emotional panic can create:

  • overexplaining
  • unnecessary apologies
  • messy messages
  • bigger emotional stakes
  • more reassurance-seeking
  • decisions made from fear instead of clarity

pause first.

act after the nervous system has stopped throwing furniture.

  2. name the state

    • “i am spiraling.”
  3. return to body

    • water
    • food if needed
    • meds if due
    • bathroom
    • slower breathing
    • sit or lie somewhere calmer
  4. reduce input

    • close extra tabs
    • silence notifications if possible
    • step away from the trigger
  5. separate facts from story
